Minor League West
Enniskillen 3rd XV 19 Inishowen 3
Enniskillen welcomed Northern Donegal side Inishowen to Mullaghmeen on Saturday. A much changed home side from the super win in Rainey the previous week struggled to find cohesion and were soon under pressure from the visitors. Only good defence from Wilkinson, Murphy and Fitzpatrick kept the visitors at bay. Skins gradually got some territory and with this got some penalties. McVitty slotted 3 good kicks to give Skins a decent 9-0 lead at the break.
Stern words at the break let Skins know that this level of performance wasn’t just good enough against a team who had several fast running backs.
The Enniskillen pack looked much more aggressive after the restart. Several good carries from Duncan and in particular Phillips gave Skins a better foothold in the game. After 50 minutes McVitty added another fine long range penalty which was quickly cancelled out by the visiting out half to leave the score 12-3.
The game was quite a lethargic match on a stodgy pitch which neither team could really make a decent running break until 10 minutes from time. Good play in midfield from Willis and Wright seen Curtis Coalter get the ball on the right wing. He showed exceptional footwork and great speed to score the only try of the fixture again converted by McVitty to leave Skins winners by 19 points to 3. This match was harder than the scoreline suggests, every player dug deep to grind out a good result against a decent enough side. This Saturday Skins welcome Donegal 2‘s to Mullaghmeen knowing that any sort of result will secure the regional title.
