Match Report

With the prospect of securing their second consecutive league title the Under 16s knew that a win or draw would be enough to give them an unassailable lead with two games still to play.

However Letterkenny have a very strong defense and it proved very difficult to break them down, the home team tried to utilize their explosive pack and center partnership of Cleary and Millar but for the first ten minutes the visitors held fast until the ball was spun out to winger Connor Kent who used his pace to cross over for the first score and a five point lead, out-half Maguire added the additional two with a successful conversion.

The remainder of the first half was an attritional battle with both sides trying to find a weakness but no further scores came from their efforts.

It seemed the pressure may have stifled the young skins players and it was fifteen minutes in to the second half before the score board was troubled again and it was young Cleary playing second center rather than his usual back row forward position who used his power and strength to cut through and score beside the posts allowing Jarliath Maguire a relatively easy conversion and the last points of the morning and a hard earned 14-0 win which secured the Ulster Branch Section Two League title and a coveted play off place for the young Fermanagh lads, and the chance to play for the All Ulster U16 Title.
