Dungannon U16 Boys 36
Enniskillen U16 Boys 26
Enniskillen Under-16s travelled up on the first wintry morning of the season last Saturday to take on a Dungannon side littered with local schools players to make up the numbers. Skins started slowly and maybe a little in awe with the number of players with pink and blue socks, with one running through a number of tackles to score in the corner. Skins started much better from the restart but had the ball stripped, Dungannon moving the ball to the winger who was forcefully tackled, dropping the ball for Oisin Farry who was able to pick the ball up and sprint to the line and score.
From the restart skins applied pressure but lost the ball yet again, allowing Dungannon to score out wide. The frustration seemed to wake the side up now, coming alive from the restart and quickly counter rucking to win the ball and a surge of strong carries from the pack saw Cahir McElhill finish it of with a try, Oisin Farry converted.
Enniskillen now dominated Dungannon and forced the ball into their half. This time the backs took their opportunity and a number of passes turned Dungannon inside out with Richard Mulcahy finishing off the score, Oisin Farry converting.
Skins pushed hard for another score now but a knock-on by a Dungannon hand ended the half, score 19 to 10 in favour of skins.
Enniskillen made 6 changes at half time and a shaky start saw Dungannon in for a converted try. Skins forced their way down the pitch and this time forwards and backs linked to see John Armstrong score another converted try in the corner. Skins started well but Dungannon recovered the ball and quickly claimed an unconverted try with some controversial handling.
Skins fought hard but the superior fitness of some of the schools players told in the last 5 minutes with Dungannon getting 2 converted tries. Skins had one last roll of the dice but the game ended before they could get a foothold back in the game, final score 36 to 26. It was a dignified response from the Skins players as unpleasant scenes of provocation broke out at the end of the game but the young players showed their maturity to top off a courageous performance away from home.
