Skins 2nd XV earn a place in Crawford plate final
Enniskillen 2XV 15
Banbridge 3XV 3
Enniskillen 2nd XV continued their run of fine form with a well earned win over Banbridge 3rd XV at Mullaghmeen last weekend. The Banbridge team that play in the league above were outplayed by the young home team in the hotly contested semi final.
The game began at a rapid pace with big carries and tackles coming from both sides. The strong wind and rain meant it was a day for the forwards. The hard work paid dividends and the break came for Enniskillen 20 minutes into the first half. John Maguire kicked to the Banbridge 22’ for a line out. A well timed throw from McCabe and excellent catch from Conor Maguire was the start of a maul towards the try line. 5 metres out Thornton broke off from the back of the maul to place the ball over the line. This woke the away team up and they replied with some excellent carries and phases of play. The desire and intensity of the Skins team never faded and every man put in an excellent tackling display and showed great line speed. The constant attack from Banbridge eventually lead to a penalty in front of the Skins posts which was easily converted, leaving the score 5-3 at half time.
The second half was mainly dominated by the home side with some excellent phases of play and running through the hands of the backs. With 9 minutes left to play Skins went down to 14 men after seeing a yellow card. Solid effort and defensive pressure had Skins back in possession and brought them back up into the opposition 22’ before a well placed kick through met the hands of Jarlath Maguire to place the ball over the try line. This fired Skins up and within minutes they were back up attacking the line and scoring a third try to leave the final score 15-3, securing their place in the final of the Crawford plate.
This fine run of form from the 2nds will hopefully continue as they head towards the last 2 league games of the season and a place in the Crawford Plate Final against Dromore 2nd XV.
