Enniskillen Under-18 girls hosted Malone last Sunday in what was a narrow defeat for the Skins girls. Malone kicked off and was fielded by Enniskillen. Runs from Tammy Millar and India Daley brought play to the halfway before the ball made it’s way to Zara flack, breaking through the Malone defence to score under the posts, converted by Jessica Elliott. Straight from the kick off Malone responded well and put Enniskillen under immediate pressure, gaining territory and eventually breaching their line, conversion missed to bring the visitors trailing 7-5.
Enniskillen knew they had a game on their hands and from the kick off they rallied to force a knock on. The resulting scrum provided a base to launch attacks through Millar, Daley and Brownlee. Skins were now close to the Malone line, Ellie-Mae Maguire picked up from the ruck, made a sniping run and crossed the line, Jessica Elliott converted again to put the home side in the lead 14-5.
After the break, Enniskillen quickly made their way into the Malone 22 and stretched their lead to 19-5; Jessica Elliott broke blind, evaded numerous attempted tackles and scored in the corner.
Disaster struck in the second half now with Skins in the ascendancy as they lost Daley to an ankle injury, with the lack of numbers on the skins bench compared to their opponents, tiredness started to set in and Malone began a rampant reprisal, scoring three tries in the bounce to win the game 24 -19.
It was an unfortunate defeat but an excellent performance from the young side. Newcomers Burchmore and Rice acquitting themselves very well in the contest.
