Enniskillen U16 10
Virginia U16 24
Enniskillen under 16’s played Virginia at home last Saturday and, despite Virginia having the long journey, it was the visitors who started with vigour and Skins who were showing signs of fatigue. Minutes after kickoff Enniskillen were awarded a penalty, it was a difficult kick and posts were selected but narrowly missed. Enniskillen didn’t really start playing until 25 minutes into the match, by that time Virginia had run in 2 soft tries which were also converted. Enniskillen showed their ability in the last minutes of the first half with more determined play but were unable to put points on the board.
The second half started more promising for Enniskillen however the Virginia defence proved very hard to break down. Oisin Jackson scored from a penalty kick. Despite a good period of defence from Enniskillen, Virginia proved too hard to stop and ran in two further tries. With minutes to go the ball was passed out left to Enniskillen first centre Dylan Flynn who cut back in, and ran past four Virginia players to score under the posts, converted to take the sheen off the Virginia scoreline, ending Virginia 24, Enniskillen 10.
It was a sluggish performance from the Enniskillen boys who looked to be beaten before taking the field against the dominant young Virginia side, improved communication and support will be the target for the U16s in coming weeks. On a positive note it was a stellar performance from Dylan Flynn with exceptional tackling and counter rucking skills on display.
