Enniskillen U14 0
Virginia U14 43
Enniskillen Under-14s had the difficult task of entertaining Virginia at Mullaghmeen last Saturday. This side have pushed opposition to nearly triple figure scores already this season and are early favourites to retain league and Cup titles. Nevertheless Skins had focused on defence during the week and were keen to test the opposition.
With only 15 players available, positional changes were required but Enniskillen started strongly and Virginia were kept at bay for the early exchanges before scoring wide in the corner. The home side defence continued to work hard with strong tackling and good line speed keeping the visitors in check. An injury to Adam Smith saw skins go down to 14 but the offer of conceding and Equal numbers was refused. A reshuffled pack held their own but eventually Virginia made the extra player pay scoring two converted tries to go in 19 to nil at half time. Skins went at it from the restart with Coiltse Farry unlucky to not finish a try from a line break. Virginia used their overlap well but skins were clever at the breakdown, making them really work with 4 tries out wide and one uncharacteristic break away under the posts to leave a final score of 43 to nil. Despite the scoreline against a very dominant Virginia side in this league, this was an awesome team performance with exceptional work ethic from the young men and a display of tackling and line speed in defence to be admired. A special mention to debutant Freddy Mason who preformed well in his first match, and best wishes to Adam who will hopefully have recovered before the league resumes after this weekend’s break.
