Dungannon U16 12
Enniskillen U16 14
Enniskillen under 16’s, captained by Niall Keenan faced a much larger Dungannon team away last Saturday. Despite Enniskillen's best efforts to put the first points on the board, Dungannon held them off in the early stages. On several occasions Enniskillen forwards drove hard into the Dungannon pack causing the backs to have to close in to shore up the gap but the ball was regrettably not released out to the Enniskillen backs facing a depleted back line.
The home side scored the first points of the half shortly afterwards with an easy run down the left wing, however the backs kept the pressure on their winger forcing him into the corner for a crucial unconverted score.
The second half began in totally different fashion for the Enniskillen side, showing a belief about themselves as tactics started to come together. Both Forwards and Backs made their job easy with improved communication leading to better support play. Six minutes into the second half the forwards got their reward when Prop Luke Thompson broke straight through the Dungannon pack and ran like the WIND for the 30 yards to score under the posts, converted by Oisin Jackson.
Shortly after that winger Jackson collected a lovely ball off a backs move, side stepped two Dungannon players to score a try which he then converted. Three minutes from the final whistle Enniskillen sat back and allowed Dungannon to create an overlap in the backs, which they took full advantage of, running in an easy converted try before the whistle. The referee then called one more play. A skins knock on resulted in Dungannon getting a scrum almost on their own 5 yard line on the right wing. The ball was passed out to the Dungannon backs who then ran it down the left wing. The desperate Enniskillen backs were just unable to catch the attackers in full flight but then, out from the opposite wing, came Oisin Jackson putting in a massive tackle to drive the Dungannon player out, salvage the result and top off a man of the match performance in the process, Final whistle leaving Enniskillen 14, Dungannon 12. Well done to all but especially to those who were new to the game and new to their position.
