Enniskillen 3rd XV 20
Enniskillen 3rd XV travelled to Carrick-on-Shannon last Saturday in their annual pre-season friendly fixture against the Leitrim men. It was a fairly narrow 30-20 defeat for the 3rd XV but an excellent contest and opportunity for a whole host of young players to step up to senior rugby. Experienced props Breen and returning Canadian export Gavin Warrington made short work of the opposition scrum alongside hooker Rea Armstrong and gave Skins a good platform throughout. The young back row put in a solid performance with Connor Maguire covering a lot of ground and Jamie Kelly carrying ball to devastating effect. Young second row pairing Aaron Kelly and Eric Elliott also put in a determined showing and racked up a high tackle count.
The back line clicked on occasion despite some unfamiliarity as Chris Fox at scrum half controlled the pace of the game and Alan Wilkinson at centre typically marshalled the line well. Newcomers to senior rugby Jarlath Maguire and Aiden McKenna looked comfortable in the backs and Maguire showed his range with some huge kicks out of hand, aided by Nathan Rutledge who put in a steady performance at full back.
The result favoured the home side but it was a competitive senior intro for seven players fresh from Under-18 rugby and showing heaps of potential as they look towards the start of the league season in a few weeks time.
