Match Report

The young U16 skins side traveled to Dungannon last Saturday with a much changed team due to illness and injury. This was to prove costly as they found themselves 10 nil down inside 10 mins before they got to grips with the positional changes. On 15 mins a box kick from Brown was gathered by Dungannon but their return kick was charged down by O'hare, who controlled the ball superbly to touch down under the posts for Monaghan to convert.

Again on 20 mins a Dungannon kick was charged down by O'Hare with Clarke in support to provide the touch down in the corner. The skins forwards worked hard to control the game with both scrum and line-out working well throughout.
On 35 mins skins were awarded a penalty from which Hill found touch 10 metres out. From the resultant line-out Keenan secured the ball and a maul was formed; rolling forward Clarke emerged from the maul with the ball to hand off his tackler and cross the line for his second try and an easy conversion for Monaghan.

The second half began again with the battle mainly between the forwards as both teams went at it hammer and tongs. With 10 mins gone it was the Dungannon backs with a kick and chase who weere to score first in the corner. For the next 10 mins it was much of the same when, off the back of a ruck, Keenan overturned Dungannon and charged free only to be tackled 2 metres short of the line, only to see Leonard in support to take the pop pass and power over in the corner.

However, Dungannon were not done yet, and after a few tired challenges from skins Dungannon were awarded a penalty on 25mins just 10 metres out. Their tap and go was repelled but another penalty was awarded and this time they got a deserved try to take the scoreline to 20 - 24. Skins rolled on the subs to freshen things up as the team had clearly given everything as they held on to secure the win. It was a great match for any spectator and featured good determination from the young Enniskillen side as well as a tactical awareness to grind out a result.
