Enniskillen Second XV were unfortunate to lose to Lisburn by the slimmest of margins on Saturday in a gut wrenching defeat.
The forward pack started well with good ball carrying from Darren Leonard and Ricky Lee, Ricky Connor’s experience was crucial and he marshalled the forwards extremely well from scrum-half. The scrum too competed well under the circumstances with back row Stevie Frazer slotting into prop as a forced last minute replacement.
The defensive effort from the side was also strong throughout the team but the skins back line struggled to find it’s form and rarely posed an attacking threat against the Lisburn defence.
Scores came from Richard Grey following a well timed pass from hooker William Finlay while winger Lloyd Harte also added to his tally with the second try. Combined with a Daniel Allister penalty this left the side just short of victory in the 16-15 defeat.
Controversy was ever present as a try from Darren Leonard was disallowed while skins players expressed outrage at an opposition try following an alleged Lisburn knock on.
Captain Alan Ferguson was disappointed with the result but is confident some more work on the training park will allow more fluidity in general play.
“The fitness showed today and it’s clear the work in training is paying off, if we keep that up i think we’ll be able to get a much more clinical performance once we get a couple of games under our belt”.
The Second XV now face a stern challenge against Portadown away this Saturday but have plenty of talented personnel and will be confident in their ability to snatch their first league win.
