Enniskillen Elks play at halftime during Ulster vs Munster match
Enniskillen Rugby Club’s 'Enniskillen Elks’ side took part in a fantastic milestone at the weekend, coming from their launch only a few months ago in February to take the field at half time in the highly anticipated Ulster versus Munster Pro12 fixture on Saturday afternoon.
Enniskillen Elks caters for all age groups for boys and girls with special needs to play tag rugby, in what has been a growing initiative throughout the province in recent years with 10 clubs now fielding sides.
On the day the Under-15 team were selected to take on Dungannon's 'Stevenson Sharks’ and had 5 minutes at halftime to display all they’ve learnt and developed over the past few months, everyone enjoyed the experience and it was a successful day for the Elks with two players scoring tries and the 17,000 crowd cheering them on, as well as the rest of the Elks age groups and parents who travelled to support them.
It has been an excellent initiative from the Elks coaches at ERFC to develop this section of the club in conjunction with Ulster rugby’s efforts to promote inclusion through sport with the aid of the NI Executive and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, and will hopefully continue to gain the support throughout the province.
